Wood or Steel? The Basement Answer Is Usually Steel
Duluth basements are honest about their moisture — stone and block foundations breathe, and spring melt tests every sump. Against those walls, steel studs earn their keep: dead straight out of the bundle, indifferent to damp, and inedible to mold. Wood still wins wherever cabinets, shelving, or mounts need solid bite, so most of our basement layouts go hybrid — steel at the masonry, wood blocking where fixtures land, pressure-treated plates wherever wood meets slab.
